AI Search for Small Business: Where to Start
Learning about AI search for small business can feel like one more task on an already full plate. If you own a small business, you’ve probably heard that you need to “optimize for AI.” It’s rarely clear what that means for your website or what you’re supposed to do first.
A useful place to start is with the questions a potential customer would ask. What do you offer? Who do you help? Where do you work? How does someone get started? If those answers are hard to find on your website, they’ll be hard for anyone researching your business to find, whether they’re using Google, an AI tool, or your site directly.
Start With Your Service Pages
Imagine someone lands on a page about one of your services. Can they tell, within a few seconds, what’s included and whether it’s right for them?
A page titled “Our Solutions” with a few broad claims doesn’t tell them much. A page that names the service, explains how it works, answers common questions, and gives them a next step is more useful.
That doesn’t mean every page needs to be long. It means the details should be there.
Answer the Questions You Hear Every Week
The questions customers ask in emails and calls are often the best ideas for your website. You might explain what a project costs, how long it takes, what happens during the first appointment, or how your service differs from a similar one.
You already know these answers. Putting them on your site makes it easier for people to decide whether to contact you.
Keep the Basics Accurate
Check that your business name, contact information, service area, and descriptions are current wherever customers commonly find you. Update pages when your services change. Make sure an old blog post isn’t the only place that explains something important you offer today.
None of this calls for a complete website rebuild.
Where to Begin
Pick one service you’d like more people to find. Read its page as though you know nothing about your business. What would you still need to ask before getting in touch?
Add those answers first. Then move to the next page.
AI search will keep changing. Giving people a clear, useful account of what your business does is work you can do now, and it helps no matter how they find you.
